Artist Statement

My proposed format for the final project is a pitch deck for a short or feature length film that explores the researched themes of homosociality and religion. This pitch deck includes a logline, synopsis, writer and director biography and mission statement, visual brainstorm of genre, characters, and location, comparable films, and a production and distribution strategy plan. I am choosing this format because I am a film and digital media major. I am really interested in exploring queerness and queer themes in my art. This format not only allows me to demonstrate my research in a creative way, but it also allows me to build my skills and visual language in my field. This pitch deck will be able to be a part of my portfolio, and I have the potential to be able to develop it through grants and funding. This connects to what we have covered in class because we have extensively explored film and themes of queerness in film. I would absolutely love to one day have a piece of work that fosters the discussions we have had in this class. This project format will help my research extend beyond the confines of the classroom because it will be a steppingstone for presenting this research in a more accessible and entertaining format. I am very excited to develop this idea into something that can be consumed and appreciated by a wider audience.
