Artist Statement
I liked the creative aspect of the format I am using, which, in this case, involves 2 different drawings that represent both equality and equity from a unique point of view.
I chose this format - drawings - because I find it fun to try to create drawings that represent both equity and equality as drawings.
Each of the drawings represents the topics (equality and equity).
For equity, I chose to draw a picture of the infamous baseball park and boxes that is used as an example to help individuals learn what equity means. Thus, because of the frequent use and comparison with equality, my drawing represents a now present-day worn-down stadium and boxes that would depict equity, that is now in ruin.
For the equality drawing, I took inspiration from Genesis 1-26:28, where it is said that "all men were created equality under the image of god" which I interpreted as one of my drawings in which humans are created via de hands of God.
Apart from the typical conversation here and there regarding the pros and cons of equity and equality, from a personal level, I wanted to see which of these lenses (equality/equity) would be of best use in modern-day society. Which would help in seeking "fairness", and "justice" and overall have a positive outcome for our society, therefore extending beyond the confines of our classroom.
