Disparities within the healthcare system for those undergoing gender transformations

By Aly Hartman
Gender transformations has been a growing topic over the past few years. With the increase in those expressing their true selves the question arises, "Are there really disparities occurring within the healthcare system for those undergoing gender transformations?" My research focuses on the unfair treatments that these people experience on a daily bases. Specially in things like public perception, insurance coverage, and the hurdles that they experience with receiving gender-affirming healthcare. Along with this, I wanted to include resources for those undergoing gender transformations and also for those who want to advocate for change. What I found was that there truly is disparities that these people are experiencing when undergoing gender transformations and the lack of resources that they have. Many statistics were used within my research to fully advocate these disparities along with solution that everyone can work towards in order to promote change.
I chose to promote this topic with a pamphlet so that it can reach as many people as possible. This topic can be spread to many people through social media and along with just passing around handouts of it. By reaching more people, it will promote awareness and change for those impacted by this topic. I would share these pamphlets with activist organizations that align with my topic to help promote this change and awareness. With this, my hopes would be to make as many people as possible aware of the disparities that occur daily for people undergoing gender transformations and promote changes within healthcare systems and even the government. In light of my research, I think that those undergoing gender transformations are experiencing disparities everyday and this insight should change the way that other's advocate for this topic.
