Artist Statement

I demonstrated my research through an art piece that highlights the border between the United States and Mexico, with the cross filled with an American flag. I am choosing to use the border between the United States and Mexico because it resonates with my family history, many of my family members have crossed the border in hopes of having a better life in America. I chose to draw a cross with an American flag to highlight the Christian religion in America. America as a predominantly Christian/Catholic country should follow what the bible preaches in being welcoming towards all immigrants. This is my observation based on bible verses and how Jesus himself was an immigrant and seeked asylum with Joseph and Mary when they fled to Egypt in fear of being killed due to King Herod wanting to kill all male infants at the time. This connects back to my personal story and how immigrants should not be seen as strangers, but part of the residing country too.
