Comparison Between Religion and Morality

For my final project, I decided to illustrate how exploring the differences between religious teaching and family upbringings affect your morals. For the final project I created some questions for some of my colleagues who attend different schools and how believe that their religious upbringing changed their views on morals. I sent each of them a series of questions and had them answer those questions in the bed of their ability. It explains that being from a different religion has an affect on you majorly in what you believe in morals. Not just only family upbringing. Being from a different religion, you believe that other beliefs are unethical and none functioning.

E. Perez (a fellow colleague, 20, whom attends Morton Community College):

- My Christian religion is the motivation in my life. It helps me keeps going. It guides me for motivation. God got me here for a reason. He put me here for a reason. I learned morals and values through school and experience. Although I am a very social person and interact deeply with my colleagues, family members, and friends. I bring to everyones attention that our lives should be valued with our faith and religion. At the age of 14, I was introduced to becoming a Christian and there I found that I have a vocation in life from this experience. My religion has taught me what is right and wrong. It has taught me how to make proper decision making. Example: Life changing decisions of careers, it taught me that I need to work on something harder that would benefit the greater good rather than my own self. My morals stem from my religion due to it showing me the proper perspectives.

L. R-Young (a fellow colleague, 20, whom attends Southeastern Missouri State):

- I was never raised to follow a certain religion, and as I've grown to identify as Atheist. I learned my morals and values from living daily life in a diverse environment, understanding how to respect everyone, no matter what they look like or where they come from. I would say my social life is healthy and vibrant, as I aim to shoot higher and higher everyday. I have many supportive friends and family who understand my goals and are mature enough to grow with me. I did, however, go to Catholic high school, where I learned many lessons about kindness and respect for a strong community and healthy relationships, which I proudly live by to this end.

J. Stewart (a fellow colleague, 19, whom attends College of Dupage)

- My religion affiliation is Christianity, and I found this religion because it was always taught to me at a very young age by my parents. Being raised by a preacher allowed religion to be strictly enforced in our household as well. For example, every Sunday I had to attend church service and I also had to read at least 3 pages of the bible every other night. Due to that occurrence, it allowed me to have a positive upbringing because my siblings and I were always taught that God should be 1st in our lives. Growing up, my mom always emphasized how important morals and values are in life. To this day, she continues to instill them in me as well. Since a child, I've always been a social person, which allowed me to have a positive and fun social life. For example, I enjoy spending time with my friends by going on vacation's or weekend lunch dates, or even spending quality time with family. I do believe that Christianity plays a major part when it comes to being a morally correct person. For example, in the bible we're told to not lie, therefore because of that, I live by not lying no matter the circumstance is. I live by three major morals, and that includes: be truthful, treat others how you want to be treated and don't judge others. I believe that having those three morals is the reason why I became who I am today.
