Food Deserts

Logan Silva: I created this image after a trial and error process of using text-to-image AI generation. This image displays how I perceive food deserts in first-world countries. Our nation, among many others, has an abundance of food, enough for every person in the nation to be nourished on a daily basis. The problem lies in the lack of disbursement of equality, education opportunities, and nourishment to facilitate productive development. This picture shows a lush gateway surrounded by two buildings, inside the gateway is an abundance of fresh, colorful, nourishing produce. Inside the gateway is a representation of our wealthy communities, that have no concerns surrounding food security, or access to fresh food. Looking through the gateway, a barren desert with just a few low plants that extend for miles. If you think about this picture in terms of raising a family, on one side or the other, how do you think the children being raised would fare on either side? Within the gates, the children would have no concerns about where their next meal will come from, nor if they are receiving the right nutrients to develop. On the other side, the children being raised would have to invest their time and energy in seeking out their food and trying to balance a healthy diet with a lack of access is incredibly difficult to achieve. I believe that spreading this artwork will also spread awareness and empathy surrounding the food desert situation that we face, and will depict the situation better than words can. I believe spreading this image will assist in raising awareness of the weight food deserts carry in these communities, and will provide people with a visual representation of how we live in the modern day.
