College Students Helping Climate Change
Environmental Post Cards by Melisa Suljevic
Artist Statement:
Everyone wants to have a positive impact on the environment but it can be really hard to know what you should do and if your choices are actually making an impact. Living in America, I have always felt very guilty about my environmental impact how I am affecting the ecosystems I am living in, and how that might affect where I am not living. I know opting out of a plastic straw isn't going to stop global warming but I wanted to get the word out to other college students in America about how they can try and have a positive impact on Mother Nature. So, I have created three different postcard-esque designs to try and spread the word. I love collecting postcards from wherever I go, and they always remind me of those memories when I hang them up on my wall and that's what I wanted the vibe of these to do. Instead of a front and back piece of paper, these would be printed like actual cards. On the front, they are inspired by a habitat in the United States that is experiencing large-scale biodiversity loss. On the other side of the front are different facts about why we should preserve this habitat, why it is so important to our earth, and/or how these ecosystems have been affected. Then on the last part of the card is information on how we can get involved and how we can make an impact. The goal of these postcards is to spread the word and have people hang these up on their walls so they can see what great habitats could be in their backyards (or just a short road trip away) and always remind them of how they can have an impact.
